Hmm, good question Mr Walters, why do we write?
Is it to get a point across to someone?
Is it to try and make someone laugh?
Is it to try and finish what Mr Walters has asked you to do?
Maybe we write for a number of reasons.
Why do YOU think we write?
When is it right to write? (just wanted to add that one in)

The day has come...
Yes that's right, the day you were all hoping and wishing for. The day you have been waiting for all your lives has finally come. That's right, today you recieved your first Grade 5 assignment! I know it's not quite as exciting as Christmas, but it comes a close second.
A few important details to remember.
- Work to the deadlines in the booklet. They will help you stay stress free and work to your potential.
- The booklet stays at school. This is not a homework assignment, it is to be done at school. You are allowed to find good research material off the internet at home and bring in to transfer into your booklet.
- If you are falling behind on a deadline you may need to sacrifice a breaktime to catch up. You will however be doing the poster at home. This is only at the very end though.
- Your first deadline is this Friday. Have your topic chosen and the questions written in your booklet by Friday morning. If you have already completed this you may work ahead and start the research.
- Start getting your research books together. They are important.
I hope you are as excited as I am about this. It just doesn't get much better!
So, the question I have for you is this, what is your topic and why have you chosen it?

Wow, it's already the end of week 4!
Well done for making it through the first 4 weeks of Grade 5.
As I was sitting down marking your math books this afternoon I came across this book. It was so exceptionally neat and well set out that I thought it was worth putting up on the iclassroom.
If this is your book then please come and get a prize on Monday!
Riddle time:
I am a fraction.
I have a denominator and a numerator.
My numerator is always bigger than my denominator.
What type of fraction am I?
The first 7 correct responses get a prize.
Do you have your diary signed yet?
Have a great weekend and I'll see YOU on Monday!

We are the Champions!
Congratulations 5W
It was two weeks in the making, and the plan did have a few pitfalls (like people forgetting their money box) but we did it. Come ready to enjoy an iceblock tomorrow.
I don't have a question for you today. Instead, I want you to share a joke. Hopefully it will be the funniest joke you know.
Quick reminder: Swimming tomorrow.

A day in the life of a squirrel who is stronger than olive oil (Thanks Dan B)
Today's question, what was the point of this lesson?
If you can tell me both what the point of the lesson was and how this 'thing' happens, you will get a prize. Yes, that's right, if you answer the question correctly, you WILL get a prize.
By the way, 1 3/4 is a MIXED NUMERAL and the equivalent improper fraction is 7/4.
Keep laughing 5W!

Why do we need lunch breaks throughout the school day?
Did I just get your attention? Open-ended questions are a very good way to start a persuasive text.
Can you think of any open-ended questions that could engage interest? I'd love to hear them.
Remember to get page 14 of your Math textbook finished tonight!
See you all tomorrow.

You Can Do It
Today we have a photo from your You Can Do It lesson.
I hope it is clear enough for you to read. If not, click on the picture and it will enlarge for you.
Don't forget, if you have finished your homework and still have not finished your 30 minutes of homework per night, log on and do some Mathletics. Or practise some double digit multiplication, like, 523 x 53. Don't forget the free gift in the second step.
Enjoy and keep being fantastic!

Fantastic Friday
When prigmentation and binders combine, the end result is...
Today we successfully made paint. Well done!
Thankyou for your feedback this afternoon. You're not the only learners in our class.
Quick question, tell me what multiplication fact do you find hard to remember? For example, mine is 8 x 7 = 56.
Have a great weekend 5W!

Don't forget swimming and the pigmentation tomorrow!
Today's question is about Grammar.
In this photo, what are these words called and what is their job?
The first five people with the correct answer get a prize.
Well done to most people on doing a great job with your homework. Remember, keep it neat and show ALL your working out.

The answer is....
The top number is the numerator and the bottom number is the denominator. Most of you got this correct so well done. Some of 5W still need to learn what the denominator is. Let's learn it sooner rather than later!
Here are some fraction charts for you to ponder on. I LOVE FRACTIONS!!!

My big question for you today is this, are you a solid, liquid or a gas? Why?
Don't forget your homework tomorrow. Put it in your bag as soon as it's done.
See you fantastic students tomorrow.

How to Persuade
Firstly, thanks to Mrs Tann for creating our new and improved 5W banner. It looks brilliant!
Hands up if you are good at persuading. Yes, that's right, you all are! Here is a photo of the structure of a persuasive text.
Remember to always use evidence to support every argument you make. Without evidence can you be very persuasive?
Lastly, here is the photo from morning tea.

Mathletics is Back!
We all love Mathletics so go and enjoy. Don't do this at home however if you have not finished your normal homework. It is more important that you do your homework and learn your spellings and times tables! When you have finished, you can click on the Mathletics picture above to take you to the sign in page.
Just in case you forgot what we did today, here is the timetable.

Week 2 over, bring on week 3!
Paint!
Yes, your question this afternoon has to do with paint.
What are the two 'properties' that make up paint? The first five correct answers will get a prize on Monday. The catch is however, you have to spell both words correctly. Yes, get out your dictionaries! On your mark, get set........... GO!
Congratulations to all those people that did exceptionally well on their spelling and x3 tests today. It was a busy day of tests, but you all did so well. Keep it up!
YOU ARE A GREAT CLASS!!!!

Gold, Gold and More Gold!
What type of mineral is gold? (clue: it is the opposite to what type of mineral a diamond is)
The first 2 correct answers will get a prize.
Don't forget that we have the spelling and x3 tests tomorrow.
Have a great night 5W!

Wonderful Wednesday
The first picture is for your viewing pleasure. Enjoy!
Why have I put this picture up? How does it link to what we learnt today?
Don't forget your homework tomorrow. As soon as it is finished put it in your bag. Don't do it later, do it straight away!
This is for your parents so please show them. I forgot to share something this afternoon. It is important that all students know their times tables by the end of term 1. With fractions coming up, they need to know their times tables and will find fractions difficult if they don't know them back-to-front.

Happy Birthday Cooper!
We all love Sound Waves! (thanks to Luc for letting me photograph his book)
Don't forget to remind Dad and/or Mum about the parent information session tomorrow afternoon at 3.30pm.
How good are you at persuading? Remember the 'Ernie and the Box' video?
